9/1/01 Question 123

Dear Preschool Teacher,
Do you have a rhyme that is used to help teach young children how to cut with scissors?
Thanks,
Scissor Song

Dear Scissor Song,
     Here's one that I have.
A cute song to help them to remember how to cut.
Sung To: "Are you sleeping"
Keep your thumbs up,
Keep your thumbs up
when u cut
when u cut.
Snip snip with scissors
snip snip with scissors
I can cut
I can cut
Enjoy!

Dear Scissor Song,

Just a short song that we sometimes use while children are cutting.
Sung To: "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"
Cut, cut, cut along,
cut along the line,
Open, shut, open, shut
my you're doing fine!!
Hope it helps!

Dear Scissor Song,
I do not have any songs for cutting.  But I do have steps to
successful cutting with scissors.
1.Scrunch up paper first.( It uses the same fingers!)
2.Tear paper with fingers. (Push vs. pull motion.)
3.Thumbkin, pointer and Tall man fingers cut.  Pointer goes on top of tall man. Thumbkin has his own space.
4.Cut a strip of paper first that is one scissor width. (Keep scraps for art center for collage)
5.Increase size of strip to two cuts.
6.Gradually get wider.
7.Then cut fat lines.  Add more lines, then let them draw their own lines.
Hope this is helpful.
Jackie
