2/14/01 Question 7

Dear Visitors,
My center is doing Dr. Seuss week, and I wanted to do something on The eye book. I am trying to find a craft project and a sensory idea. Please let me know if you know any.
The Eye Book

Dear The Eye Book,

One really fun thing you can do is to set up your own eye doctor's office.  Make the eye chart using common shapes or objects (circle, apple, house, etc).  Start with large objects and keep shrinking them down until the last row is very small.  Make a cardboard paddle so the "patient can cover one eye and give the "doctor" a wand  to point to each object.  Find a pattern (or use a pair of child size  sunglasses to make your own pattern) to make glasses out of tagboard.  They love painting, coloring or putting on stickers to decorate their glasses. We always do this activity the week before pre-school vision screenings. The kids love it and are not afraid when it's time for the real eye test!
