11/1/01 Question 135/ Computer Classroom

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I would like to introduce a computer into my pre-school classroom (age range 3/4) but am worried that these children will be too young to reap the benefits of It.  Also please advise me on particular software packages which will help the children to learn. Please tell me of your experiences of using a computer in the pre-school classroom.

11/1/01 Question 136/ Defeated Mom and Child

Dear Preschool Teacher,
Should a preschool teacher take the opportunity at the end of each session to tell a parent (in front of the child) what that child did wrong that day (i.e. doesn't use listening skills etc.) Isn't this a practice that defeats the child if done on a day to day basis?

Dear Preschool Teacher,
For my final project in my ECE class I have to dramatize a children's book or a scene from a children's book. I can use props or puppets, but I'm having trouble coming up with a good book to bring to life and what props I should use.  Any suggestions?

11/1/01 Question 138/ Need Help Nanny

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I am a nanny for 3 kids ages 1,4, and 9. The 4 year old Justin was on his second year of preschool when they kicked him out for crying. So, the parents have asked me to help him. I need some ideas. He is very hyper active and cannot concentrate on anything other than video games for very long. We are trying to teach him the alphabet and to recognize letters. He can do most of this, but can't put them together in the alphabet. I have made flash cards, but they don't seem to help him. Any ideas to teach this or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

11/29/01 Question 139/ Concerned Mommy

Dear Preschool Teacher,
When I picked my son up from preschool today, he said Mrs. So and So grabbed my arm. She was standing there and said it was either that or get squished by a car in the parking lot.  I  thought nothing of it.  Then, at home, he said she grabbed his arm during circle time because she wanted him to move.  I want to know what I should do.  My husband says to let it go. But there have been other children complaining about this arm grabbing.  Am I just being overly picky?  FYI: it is a cooperative school and there is a parent in the class at all times.

11/29/01 Question 140/ Calendar Girl

Dear Preschool Teacher,
My four year old ask me daily the name of each day. Is there a picture association game I can play with her to teach her the days of the week? For example: I have drawn the sun next to Sunday and the number 2 by Tuesday and it works, but I cannot think of a picture or association for each day of the week. Can you help me?
